Executive Functioning Support
Skills for school. Skills for life.
Executive functioning is more than staying organized. It is the foundation for independence. At Compass, executive functioning is intentionally taught, practiced, and strengthened throughout the school day. These are the same skills students will rely on in college, careers, and adulthood.
Students learn to:
Plan and prioritize
Break complex tasks into manageable steps
Manage time effectively
Adapt when plans change
Reflect on progress
Advocate for support when needed
Support services overview
-
Every student at Compass is assigned to an advisory group run by a faculty advisor. Advisory groups are small, usually five students or fewer.
The Advisory Program focuses on organization, homework and social emotional learning. Students are prompted to use their online learning management systems, assisted in planning their homework schedule, and provided regular follow up on their homework completion.
-
We maintain a counselor on staff to assist students with social skills such as dealing with the challenges of adolescence, establishing friendships, developing coping skills and advocacy skills, among others.
In addition to drop in services, individual sessions as well as referrals for psycho-educational testing services are available.
-
Compass’ program is designed to provide students with an educational program that is individualized and intensive. Because of our small class size and academic skills courses, most students don’t require one-on-one tutoring.
However, for students who need additional support, we have an educational specialist onsite who pushes into classes and is available to provide individual support.
