Education Specialist

Miss Shauna Yelnick is the education specialist, where her role is to help students who need greater support with accessing the curriculum. Her role also involves supporting teachers in implementing their curricula so that it is equitable for students who learn differently. Additionally, she teaches a reading and writing support class at Compass called English Literature & Composition.
The 2026-2027 school year marks Miss Yelnick's 16th year as a classroom teacher.

She started off her teaching career in 2002 with teaching English at a high school. Since then, she taught English on and off at several public middle and high schools on the peninsula before shifting solely to special education in 2015. Miss Yelnick brings with her 25 years' experience tutoring reading and writing to middle and high school students with mild/moderate learning differences.

Miss Yelnick holds a teaching credential in English, as well as a master's degree in education from Santa Clara University. In December 2024, she completed a dual program where she earned an education specialist credential and a master's degree in special education. Her capstone research paper for her master's in special education explored the variables and circumstances that take place when IEP accommodations are not implemented in public school classrooms.  

Her goal at Compass is to enlighten and encourage her students to be the best version of themselves not only in the effort that they put into their classes, but also with their contributions to their community beyond the classroom.
