  • Compass High School is seeking a front-office Receptionist / Administrative Assistant to join our staff for the 2024-25 school year. Compass is a nonprofit private school specializing in the education of students with learning differences. Our school is truly unique and a rewarding place to work. The mission of Compass High School is to provide a supportive, individualized program to help students develop their full academic and overall potential. We focus on learning strategies, social competence, and self-advocacy to give students the knowledge and self-confidence they need to succeed. Compass is a small school with a high level of cohesion and collaboration among its staff and faculty. This is a full-time position located in Belmont, CA.

    Position Overview:

    The school Receptionist / Administrative Assistant collaborates with the school’s administrative team and faculty. The successful candidate is flexible, highly organized, a self-starter, and able to manage ever-changing priorities. This is a front office position and is therefore the main point of contact for existing and potential families, vendors, and visitors. 

    Essential Responsibilities:

    * Oversee the daily operation of the school

    * Track and report attendance

    * Order supplies, maintain purchase orders

    * Communicate with parents

    * Support admissions and marketing initiatives

    * Manage calendars for the Head of School and other administrators upon request

    * Assist  in planning, promoting, and executing all school-wide events, including admissions open houses, fundraisers, experiential learning trips, and graduation under the direction of the administrative team

    * Provide direct support to students

    Qualifications:

    * Office work experience (management experience preferred)

    * Excellent computer skills (Apple, MS Office, Google suite, databases, design)

    * Excellent communication skills: clear, articulate, professional in speaking and writing

    * Experience working in a school setting (preferred)

    * Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

  • Compass High School is seeking a General Studies/Humanities Education Teacher to join our faculty for the 2024-25 school year. Compass is a nonprofit private school specializing in the education of students with learning differences. Our school is truly a unique and rewarding place for teachers to work. Our student body is made up of students with complex learning profiles who need individualized, supportive, and engaging teachers. The mission of Compass High School is to provide a supportive, individualized program to help students develop their full academic potential. We focus on learning strategies, social competence, and self-advocacy to give students the knowledge and self-confidence they need to succeed. Compass is a small school with a high level of cohesion and collaboration among its faculty. 

    Position Overview:

    The successful candidate will be able to teach high school humanities classes at multiple grade levels. This could include English and History support, elective classes, general history or foundation courses. This could also include supporting study skills and executive functioning within other classes. We are looking for a teacher who is creative and flexible, who uses multi-sensory teaching techniques, and who designs structured lessons. Experience teaching students with learning differences is preferred. Full-time position with benefits package available. The position will start in Fall 2024.

    * Teaching general education classes to 9th-12th grade students

    * Supporting study skills and executive functioning for 9th-12th grade students 

    * Provide engaging programs to fit the needs of all students

  • The Learning Specialist collaborates with the school’s senior leadership and faculty and is responsible for overseeing student support and remediation. The Learning Specialist will teach a Reading Skills class and a Math Skills class as well as provide one-to-one educational therapy to a small caseload of students. Experience teaching students with learning differences is required.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Plan and implement reading remediation in a small group setting for students with dyslexia and other reading disorders

    • Provide individual plans to a caseload of students who require intensive support to be successful in high school classes

    • Utilize assessment data to plan instruction and to document progress

    • Participate as school representative for IEP meetings and in regular staff meetings, as required

    • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

    • Communicate, facilitate and lead across stakeholders in an integrated approach to our strengths-focused learning support

    • Provide direct support for students, individually or in groups, to help them understand their strengths and strategies, partnering with them in goal setting and advocacy.

  • Compass High School is currently seeking a School Counselor to join its faculty for the 2024-2025 academic year. As a non-profit private school, we specialize in educating students with learning differences. Our school provides teachers with a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with complex learners. Our mission is to offer a supportive and individualized program that helps students achieve their full academic potential. We focus on learning strategies, social competence, and self-advocacy to provide students with the knowledge and self-confidence they need to succeed. Compass has a small school community, and our faculty members work collaboratively to promote cohesion and ensure the best possible outcomes for our students. This position will be located at our campus in Belmont, starting in the fall of 2024.

    Position Overview: The successful candidate will have experience working with adolescents, specifically those with various learning differences and processing disorders. We are seeking a counselor to provide individual support and guidance around social skills. Our students have few behavioral issues and need the most support in their social-emotional growth and the management of relationships. Experience teaching students with learning differences is required.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    ● Have the ability to plan an individualized program that enhances social development.

    ● Provide support to social-emotional learning and growth.

    ● Aid in the support of conflict resolution, mediation, and decision-making.

    ● Support students experiencing anxiety, depression, or other mental health difficulties.

    ● Meet with various stakeholders to support student learning and overall well-being.

    ● Participate in regular staff meetings, as required.

    ● Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    ● Bachelor’s Degree required.

    ● Master’s Degree in Counseling and/or PPS certification preferred.

    ● Experience working in a high school setting as a Guidance Counselor or similar role.

    ● Experience working with students with specific learning disabilities.

    philosophy, and psychology.

  • Compass High School is seeking a STEM teacher to join our faculty in August for the 2024-2025 school year. Compass specializes in the education of students with learning differences. Compass is a small school with a high level of teamwork and collaboration among its faculty. Parents are involved and supportive.

    The successful candidate will be able to teach high school math consisting of  Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and selective Science classes like environmental studies, biology, or astronomy. The candidate will be comfortable teaching students who range from talented math students to students who have learning disabilities in mathematics, reading, and written language. Experience and proficiency in teaching remedial skills are important. We are looking for a creative teacher, who uses multisensory teaching techniques, and who provides a structured and fun classroom environment. A California special education teaching credential or progress toward one is preferred.  Successful teachers are flexible, understanding and have the ability to teach the same concept in several ways.
