Melissa is excited to join Compass High School! Most recently she’s been the math teacher for a group of homeschooled kids with learning differences as well as a private math tutor. She’s always loved math and even went to a boarding school for math and science (Go Unicorns!). Her kids, however, didn’t like math. She found Making Math Real (MMR) when she toured a school similar to Compass in San Rafael and that changed how she thought about math and how to teach anyone. Her youngest son now goes to that school!

Melissa has worn many hats during her various careers. In graduate school she focused on neurodevelopmental disorders while studying Child Clinical and Developmental Psychology. Then she became a corporate trainer for a few years which led to a long career in the technology sector as a consultant helping companies implement systems and improve processes. She took a break from that to go to pastry school! She’s the mom to two kids with learning differences and loves working with other kids. She also loves traveling and spending time with the two cutest dogs ever.
