John Brentar, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and the Executive Director of Morrissey-Compton, Inc., a multidisciplinary clinic in Redwood City, CA, that provides assessments, mental health therapy, educational therapy, and speech and language services for children, adolescents, and adults.

Dr. Brentar earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Case Western Reserve University and his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Ohio University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at Albany Medical College in New York and his postdoctoral fellowship at the Children’s Health Council (CHC).

John first joined Morrissey-Compton in 1991 as a part-time clinician, later transitioning to full-time work, and has served as Executive Director since 2006. Alongside his leadership responsibilities, he maintains a full clinical caseload, specializing in psychoeducational and psychological evaluations as well as therapy for children and adults. His professional passion lies in helping students navigate their educational and mental health journeys so they can reach their full potential and achieve their life and career goals.
